Introduction of SLO as part of the PA Teacher Effectiveness Rating System

As Curriculum Coordinator I was the lead for our district on this component of the 2013 changes to the PA Teacher Effectiveness rating system. I worked primarily with one other administrator, Adam Jardina (an elementary building principal) in development the timeline and local vision which are in the planning document. He left the district before full implementation began. Also, a team of teachers who piloted our system served as group facilitators. They are listed in the planning document.

In addition to the resources below teachers received handouts that were created by the PA Dept of Education. These handouts included the SLO template and worksheets to help them develop their goals and performance measures.

Creating Engaging Lessons: Using Technology to Increase Rigor & Relevance

Email sent to teachers regarding summer PD opportunities

Workshop Outline that was the cover sheet for participants' handouts. Other handouts were not original. They included the ISTE NETS for Teachers & Students and a one page document on Essential Conditions.

PowerPoint used to conduct workshop. The workshop utilized Moodle (the learning management system being used at the time) and I toggled back & forth between the PPT & Moodle. The portion of the materials contained on Moodle were lost when the district adopted My Big Campus as their LMS. The original file has been uploaded to Google for display in this website.

Evaluations were paper/pencil and filed with the district office.

Familiarization with the PA Department of Education Standards Aligned System Web Portal

Used as part of the training for high school on an in-service day. We started as a whole group and then teachers broke into departments to complete the group activity, a scavenger hunt. Districts were left to their own to introduce the PDE website to their teachers. There were several districts that shared their documents early on. Mine most closely followed that of Ryan Devlin from Brockway ASD. Teachers who were absent completed the activity on their own.

One teacher in the group had to create their account and log into the system. All teachers were given the handout so that they could create accounts.

Evaluations were paper/pencil and filed with the district office.
